My Biography

In 2009, after 34 years, I retired from the NYC Transit Authority. Before I retired, I joined the Red Cross as a volunteer. As I learned about how to care for others in a disaster, I heard about the ARC Squared radio club (ARC Squared is short for American Red Cross Amateur Radio Club or ARC2). I decided to get my Technician license to help with communications for the Red Cross. In 2009, I earned my Tech license, upgraded to General in 2013, and Extra in 2017.

As a General, I became a VE and an instructor. In 2010, I wrote a Technician class for our club instructor. I have now written 12 classes for all license levels. I am now the club’s lead instructor and proud to say that the club reached a milestone of more than 750 students passing their VE exams for new and upgraded licenses.

As a Red Cross Volunteer, I lead a group of other volunteers who visit Field Day sites. I believe that having the Red Cross acknowledging amateur radio in quiet blue sky times will help to get help, if needed, in emergency gray sky times.

I have met some great people through the radio community, and look forward to the future
